Sam Fender has given the full amount of his £25k honor cash to the MVT, which functions to save the Britain's small music venues.

The star was given the award on October 16 as his new release People Watching was declared the top album of the past year.

Fender has decided to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the vital role small stages had in his early career.

"As an artist couldn't be pursuing my current career if it wasn't for all the performances I performed around the area, and further afield, when I was starting out," remarked Sam Fender. "These locations are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these spaces have shut down – roughly one-sixth of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, top acts including Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all supported the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to keep the scene afloat, by applying a small levy to their admission fees, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also joined in, collecting over £100k on his live tour to assist numerous small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The money assisted venues that were dealing with imminent closure due to difficulties stemming from flooding, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, conflicts and sound issues.

Some locations were granted financial assistance in modernizing infrastructure and technical equipment that helped musicians and fans.

"The notion that money from shows in big venues supports the local stages, where it begins for musicians like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has said.

He is far from the only musician to donate his honor funds to charitable organizations.

When they earned the prize in the year 1996 for their release the album, lead singer Jarvis Cocker announced that the group would give their cash to the non-profit War Child.

In 2002, artist Ms Dynamite shared her award across multiple good causes, such as the children's charity and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"I also contributed a thousand pounds to the center, to their gymnastics class, because I trained in gymnastics when I was growing up and they needed new equipment," she shared with outlets.

Two years ago, Ezra Collective donated their winnings to the youth organization that supported their group, in addition to other independent music bodies.

Additionally winners that year M People donated their award to a MS organization after a close contact was diagnosed the condition.

"The victory was sufficient," remarked singer the singer. "The prize was the bonus but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the main prize. So our winning impacted another person's life."

Last week, the Music Venues Trust announced it had protected two small stages in that region, by transferring them to community ownership.

The first in that area and the second in that location were bought under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is backed by the arts council and music fans who buy "stakes" in the buildings.
