Each time a major awards ceremony draws close, one notices a demand for the addition of new categories to recognize overlooked contributions and fill the hearts of followers who have specialized interests.
Another commentator has already made supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. So would strategy board titles, this being a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front just as with other single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification backing this proposal is the most urgent above others. The demand is this: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Classifying creative works isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and inevitably start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason cinema institutions avoid this approach. But it is an essential concession for the industry of video games, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.
Present Award Structure
The major gaming awards presently include classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these classifications successfully include a lot of ground, allowing placement for most games within them.
Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears to put them. Think about these this year’s best games, all very different: the architectural riddles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. What category would fit them among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Recognition Challenges
Many instances occur outstanding logic titles published annually that have no home in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.
- A renowned logic title received no recognition completely that year
- A different innovative game received no nominations that year
- A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment recently
- Only a few logic titles barely qualified for independent or mobile categories
Importance of Logic Titles
Commonly they're modest productions, yet the craft behind logic titles is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles count as most popular titles in the world and have been for many years.
The famous puzzle experience rivals famous sandbox experiences for the title of most purchased experience; it additionally competes for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, and engaging across multiple categories.
Proposal and Rationale
Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. You could fill multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.
Restating the point, these include experiences that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers are working at the demanding boundary of video game design, developing some of the purest expressions of gaming itself. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
