The speculation about the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a fresh Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer packed with striking imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very opening of infernal gates.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This choice of words hints that the team could be designing a real-time experience instead of another turn-based title. For now, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it kicked off the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—elements that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs only possible by choosing a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.
The series is also notoriously flexible, enabling players to improvise both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be completed in multiple ways, often in surprising fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.
The Journey Continues
It is this design philosophy that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, fans can get ready for more where that came from in this legendary franchise.
