Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline featuring divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in strength within the urban setting.

Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of adventurers who will split off from the main group to embark on their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

With an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.

What Defines the Combat Party

Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might seem out of place, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

First, the team understands precisely where to proceed after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing started the campaign’s events—used the foes for his own means, breaking into the secret base, striking Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.

The traitor then paid off his liabilities and fled to a secure base in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, seeks retribution.
  • Kattigan knows the northern area and advises that it is a hostile place.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • However, their status as key figures in House Halovar could enable the group access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, Teor vowed a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:

  • Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the family.

This leaves them few options but to journey toward Timmony in quest for the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

From episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Explorers and Schemers tables.

Viewers can expect learning which characters will be where in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
